Buying a New Computer! Any Tips?

Postby Swiss » 27 Dec 2014, 06:03

Hi Guys,

Swiss Here, I am pretty new here and joined Adept as a Social for the beginning. Looking forward for raids but am not %100 ready yet :)

First I will start with a brand new PC, so i have already put together a List of pieces, I also will mention prices.(All prices are in Swiss Francs)

1. CPU: Intel i5 4670k "Haswell" 4x3.60Ghz Sockel1150: 251.50
2. Motherboard: MSI H97M-G43 Intel H97: 90.00
3. Graphic Card: MSI N760 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 760 2GB: 210.00
4. RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3-1600/ 2x4GB: 90.00
5. SSD: Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SATA 6Gb/s: 113.00
6. HDD: SeaGate NAS HDD 2.0TB: 100.00
7. ToWer: ANTEC VSK4000E: 28.00
8. PSU: Super Flower Golden Green Pro 650WW: 100.00

Total: 982.50 CHF + I will spend aprox 200 For a New Monitor

My first question here is do i need a 650 WW Power Supply? or will 550W do the Job? And will this be enough to play WoW on Ultra?

Thanks in Advance

Get a Z97 motherboard so you can OC :)

The RAM you've taken are kinda overpriced, look at some G.Skill ones maybe?

You dont need 650W at all 500 is MORE than enough.. But get a decent one.. I've never heard of that brand, i suggest you go for a Cooler Master G550M, thats around the same price (slightly cheaper).

I run 970 SLI, 3 SSD's, 2 HDD's, i5 4690k at 4.4 ghz on my 760W PSU and i still have plenty of spare power :)

Super flower is well respected so it should be fine, and its gold certified, whereas the cm one is bronze.

In terms of power draw, for a single card 500W is more than enough -as long as its a good psu which provides the rated amount-. If you want the option of moving to dual cards, 650W sounds like a safe bet to me.

Other than that, to reiterate what phyx said, a k cpu should generally be paired with a z series motherboard otherwise the 'k' part does nothing.

Dont know about price ranges on graphics anymore, but i would strongly recommend something with 4gb ram now, because newer consoles have a lot of graphics ram and pc ports of those games are starting to need 3gb+ gpu ram for high settings in games.

SSD: i personally rate samsung 840 evos, but I havent looked into ssds for a year or so, so it could all have changed since i got mine!

Gold vs bronze isnt a big difference anymore, and you'll see the CM one i suggested rated extremely high for basic builds on tons of websites :) (i've used it in quite a few builds as well and its a good psu)

As for SSD it really doesnt make much of a difference. You wont see a difference except for in benchmarks.

Also if he wants to go for 4GB VRAM he has to go for a 970 to get the only option at a decent price. However my previous 780 with 3gb VRAM never had issues with games (even at 1440p). 2gb might be too low though, but again its a totally different price.

RAM: G Skills Are same Price category here. But HyperX Fury Red instead of the Beast is 30CHF Cheaper. Should i get that one?

MainBoard: Ok, i dunno what that "OC" is supposed to mean or that "K" Effect is, but I am sure you know something, So i am going instead the h97 one for this one:
ASUS Z97-K Intel Z97- 126 CHF

HDD: Changing this one to 1TB saving me another 40 CHF.. I don't need 2TB.

@Phyxiusx,

You Run 3 SSD`s 2 HDD`s ? Are you a Graphic Designer or something?

What do you mean by "Also if he wants to go for 4GB VRAM he has to go for a 970 to get the only option at a decent price."

(Atm I cannot afford myself a 4GB graphic card, that is more than Double Price. And i will only play WoW anyway.. and i have heard from many places that 2g 760gtx is doing a good job.

But i checked the price difference between 2gb and 4gb and its a 110 CHF.. but than if i get the 4GB Graphic Card i properly will have to go for the 650WW PSU?!

Cooler Master sounds Good, since i can get it for cheaper i will go for that one.

@Red,

Dual Cards sounds good, but again do I need it for WoW? I mean i am not a Graphic Designer or something..
I looked into the SSD.
Samsung 840 Evos, The Price is the same with the one I have chosen, But instead the Samsung is 250gb and Kingstons only 240gb. Does that maybe make a difference?

PS Any Good Tips for a Good Priced 24inch Monitor?

ASUS or ACER? or Samsung?

RAM:
Go for the Hyper X Fury RAM then, they're just as good.. :)

CPU:
OC means overclocking. The "K" model has an unlocked multiplier which means its able to overclock, where as the non k version cant. "K" Version also has a way better resell value, and the price difference is usually close to nothing. Definitely get the "K" version.

Motherboard:
Good choice :)

Graphics card:
Depends which card you're looking at? is it a 970 you're looking at? If so it will do fine at a 550W PSU.

You dont need dual cards for WoW no..

I do some designing + some 3d modelling yea. But mostly just for a hobby. I just like building and having a powerful pc :P

SSD:
If the evo is the same price as the kingston one, then go for the evo.

Monitor:
Depends what you prefer. You'll hear lots of people say go for 120hz, and then others say go for one with an IPS display. Personally i prefer the IPS display over 120hz for MMO's as its way better to look at. Asus and Samsung both make good screens. Stay away from anything with Acer branded on it :)

Only go for 120/144Hz screen if you're an FPS player and you get above 120/144 FPS in said game. otherwise I'm sure Mizz would have some good options for you.

Monitor

Postby Swiss » 30 Dec 2014, 03:04

OK I will stick to the K version CPU.

The Grahpic Card will be 760gtx 2gb.

this FS2434 is over priced, 390CHF

and i have found this one for 230CHF http://www.microspot.ch/msp/de/hardware ... 0000962729

Same MS. but Higher Conrast.. Is that good or bad?

PS My Budget for a Monitor is around 200 ish...

Link doesnt work for me.. i think you need to find the "share list" function, most hardware sites have that function... The one for the monitor in previous message doesnt work for me either :)
